IKEA is launching an air-purifying curtain (GUNRID) covered in minerals that break down common pollutants.
GUNRID consists of a mineral-based photocatalyst coating used in textiles. When light is activated indoors and outdoors, it breaks down common indoor air pollutants.
The technology works in a similar way to photosynthesis, the natural process by which plants and other organisms use light to convert carbon dioxide and water into food.
IKEA has worked with university institutions in Europe and Asia to develop the cleaning technology.Normally photocatalysts are only activated by sunlight, but the coatings developed in this case also react to indoor light.
The technology can be applied to any textile except curtains.
